Points of Interest
All of the following activities may be booked through our reception desk.
Theatre and Music
Recommended is a visit to the recently constructed Teatro Municipal de Faro. This progressive theatre has a varied programme of events and concerts. The London Symphony Orchestra is a popular visitor as well as various soloists playing music ranging from jazz to classical. The theatre also hosts dance groups, plays and individual theatrical performances. For further details of programmes, visit their webpage at www.teatromunicipaldefaro.pt.
Nature
For those who enjoy the natural trail, a government sponsored body called Lands – Turismo na Natureza, Lda (Lands - Tourism in Nature Ltd) organises group walking tours, kayak tours and birdwatching excursions in the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Check www.lands.pt for details of their excursions.
Boat Cruises
Faro features many boat excursions and fishing trips. Quite popular is the boat tour that leaves the Porta Nova Pier (see maps and directions) on an excursion exploring the Ria Formosa’s Natural Park, including a stop on the uninhabited island of Ilha Deserta, the southernmost point of
Portugal (www.ilha-deserta.com). Also very popular is the leisurely boat cruise up the Guadiana River (which divides Portugal from Spain) as it meanders its way through the wooded hills. This cruise includes a picnic lunch/barbecue of fresh sardines accompanied by Portuguese wines.
Bike Hire
Whether you are exploring the city or cutting through back routes to the closest beach, Ilha do Faro, a bicycle is a fun and easy way to get around Faro. Bike hires can be organised through the hotel’s reception desk.
Car Hire
Hotel Residencial S. Algarve has special arrangements with a car hire firm which enables the guests to hire cars at preferential rates. Car hire can be arranged through the reception desk.
Shopping
Rua do Santo Antonio and the surrounding streets is a popular place to start. Alternatively, you can either walk or take a mini-bus to the Faro Shopping Centre just outside the main part of Faro, which contains many well-known stores and eateries under one roof.
